Proceedings of 13th OpenSky Symposium
Vol. 4 No. 2 (2026)This special issue features a collection of proceedings from the OpenSky Symposium 2025, hosted in Norrköping, Sweden. Launched in 2013, the OpenSky Network has become a pivotal air traffic control data platform, boasting over 5,000 sensors worldwide. The recent symposium, held in October 2025 and co-hosted by Linköping University, received support from the Performance Review Commission of EUROCONTROL.
All accepted papers in this special issue have undergone the same rigorous open peer review process as those in regular issues.

EUROCONTROL PRC 2025 Data Challenge
Vol. 4 No. 3 (2026)This special issue presents research outcomes from the EUROCONTROL Performance Review Commission 2025 Data Challenge, which invited data scientists to develop open machine learning models to predict fuel consumption at specific flight intervals. By pairing flight segment data with corresponding fuel burn measurements, this challenge addresses a core problem in sustainable aviation research. The challenge ran from October 1 to November 30, 2025, provided participants with real-world aviation data combining ACARS trajectories and ADS-B data sourced from the OpenSky Network.
All accepted papers in this special issue have undergone the same rigorous open peer review process as those in regular issues.

EUROCONTROL PRC 2024 Data Challenge
Vol. 3 No. 2 (2025)This special issue presents research outcomes from the EUROCONTROL Performance Review Commission (PRC) 2024 Data Challenge, which tasked data scientists with developing open machine learning models to predict Actual TakeOff Weight (ATOW) of flights across Europe. ATOW is a critical parameter for estimating fuel consumption and aviation emissions, making accurate prediction essential for environmental impact
assessment in the aviation sector. The challenge provided participants with 369,013 European flights from 2022, comprising approximately 158GB of parquet files. The data included flight origins, destinations, aircraft types, timing information, and high-resolution trajectory data at up to 1-second granularity. Of these flights, 105,959 were used for intermediate ranking submissions, while 52,190 were reserved for final evaluation.
