Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Make sure to use the Manuscript Template for submitting your manuscript
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments for the Editor section).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • References are formatted according to the APA format, and where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The names and contact details of two possible reviewers have been suggested in the Comments for the Editor section.

Research Article

Research articles are empirical, theoretical, or review papers, which will be peer-reviewed according to rigorous academic standards.

Research articles should have a maximum of 7000 words, including Tables, but excluding Figures and the References list.

Commentary

Commentaries will be peer reviewed for quality and factuality but will not need to comply with the same rigorous academic standards as a research article. 

Commentaries do not require an abstract and should not be more than 3000 words long, including references.

Practice Outlook

Practice outlook submissions provide the opportunity for practitioners to reflect on current practice in water governance. Practice outlook submissions will be checked for quality and factuality, but will not be subject to rigorous academic research standards. 

Practice outlook contributions do not require an abstract and should not be more than 3000 words long, including references.

Perspective

Perspective submissions provide an overview of new developments, new research areas or research agendas. They can be opinionated, and will be reviewed for quality and factuality, but will not be subject to rigorous academic research standards. 

Perspective contributions do an abstract and should not be more than 5000 words long, including references.
