Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • A+BE will only consider publishing your work after it is approved by the doctoral committee at your university according to its regulations.

  • Provide in Step 2 a draft version of your thesis in PDF. Make sure the file size is less than 100 Mb. We use the file to see if your thesis is more complex than usual. We will not publish or evaluate this draft.

  • Be aware that you have to prepare the manuscript by using a special template. You will find a link to this download in the email that you will receive from the editor after you have concluded this submission.

Author Guidelines

PhD thesis series in Architecture and the Built Environment

In the case that your thesis consists of chapters with multiple authors and separate reference lists, then these chapters will be presented separately next to the full thesis. In the case of a monograph, we will publish the thesis as one complete volume.

What we can do for you

Using the A+BE website we will publish an issue of A+BE dedicated to your thesis. We will disseminate your thesis in three different ways:

  • ABSTRACT the full summary of the thesis (online text);
  • PDF interactive PDF of the full thesis (download link);
  • PAPERBACK full-colour printing-on-demand book.

If you want, we can even offer a cost-effective B/W paperback version if no essential data gets lost in grey-scale. Access to the paperback versions is provided through the PAPERBACK link that will forward you to an online store. Paperback versions can also be purchased through Amazon.com and Amazon Europe or other online stores.

Indexing

A+BE is registered at our national ISSN centre: the National Library of the Netherlands (Koninklijke Bibliotheek) under ISSN 2212-3202, and E-ISSN 2214-7233. Your thesis receives its own International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) at no extra charge. We submit the metadata of your thesis to the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Your thesis is typically within 1-2 weeks indexed in Google Scholar.

A little help, please

To keep costs down we ask you to layout your own work, using a special Adobe InDesign template. If you are not acquainted with InDesign we will teach you the basics of the program in about 1-2 hours to get you started. A graphic designer from Sirene-Ontwerpers will supervise the process and take care of the final editing/design. If you are not able to visit us in Delft or Rotterdam, we will contact you using Skype.

Be on time

Please understand that we need to plan work. Typically we start working with you 8 to 10 weeks before your defence. Even then we need to know in advance that you want to be included in the series. So, please contact us as soon as possible.

Rights

A+BE is an open-access publication series. Your work is published under the CC BY 4.0 licence. As an author, you will remain the owner of your work. You will keep your copyright. You can modify (parts of) your thesis, print or publish it somewhere else after you have published your book with us. You can share the files we provide you without asking for permission.
